How it was done · told by Penny Tallybright

Is this job making money?

  1. 1

    The problem

Job costs, vendor bills, change orders and pay applications were tracked in separate tools, so nobody had a live picture of whether a job was making money.

  2. 2

    The bees make a plan

A Cost Control module covering jobs, accounts payable and receivable, purchase orders, change orders, AIA-style G702/G703 pay applications and Positive Pay files, plus Books and Accounting for the ledger, WIP and job P&L.

  3. 3

    Build

    • Rebuilt the old system's job-cost reports one by one
    • Compared every total to the old reports
    • Added pay apps and change orders on the same job record
  4. 4

    Test

Added a ledger, trial balance and P&L

  5. 5

    Where it stands

Running in staging against real job history, and reconciling to the old reports is ongoing.

The technology we used

Named, because we really use it.

  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL
  • CSV import/export

Technology names are text only. Naming a vendor is not a partnership or sponsorship claim.
